Cloaking Facebook Links
These instructions have been updated for version 1.0
One of the main annoyance when dealing with facebook campaigns is getting your links approved. You can actually set up your KBlinker links so that they are cloaked from Facebook Reviewers.
Method 1 - Referrer Filter Preset
If there is a single page you have that you know will always be accepted by facebook and somewhat matches the terms you are using for the ad, you can setup a filter preset for this purpose. The benefit of a filter preset is you can save the setting once and simply select it in the preset drop down when creating links.
- Click "Filters" in the menu.
- Add a new Referrer filter from the links in the sidebar.
- Give your filter preset a meaningful title (ie: Facebook - Acai Cloak)
- In the matches box type a single line
*.intern.facebook.com http://www.your-kosher-ad.com - Click Save
- Select your filter in the Referrer preset dropdown when creating a new link.
- Get Approved
In the matches box, each match is has it's own line, the match in front (which can be a straight referrer or wildcard referrer) needs to match the visitor's HTTP_REFERER variable in order to match an goto the target as defined after the match (separated by a space). Because facebook reviewers often click your links on their internal page, their intern.facebook.com url shows up as the http_referrer.
Method 2 - Legacy Filter Setting
Similar to the filter preset method, the legacy filter is setup on a per link basis. When creating a new link, you can click the link at the bottom of the page to Toggle Manual Settings. When you do this several more settings will appear. Simply place *.intern.facebook.com into the blocked referrer box, and put a single target URI into the Referrer Redirect box. In manual filter setting mode, you provide a number of matches seperated by a space, any match will goto the single URL provided in the redirect box. If a Referrer Filter Preset has been selected, the Manual Setting will be ignored.
Additional Notes
You can also use the IP filter to achieve the same task if you are aware of Facebook's internal IP range.
In version 0.5.3 and earlier, referer matching does not support wildcards, simply providing intern.facebook.com will match if it is anywhere inside the visitor's refferer.
